Terminology Related to First Nations, Métis & Inuit Identity Fraud

 

CONFOUNDMENT OF PAPER - has been used in reference to the colonial act of serving Settler Justice upon FNMI people, spaces and resources - most commonly found in the form of the Powley decision to authenticate oneself to a false claim of FNMI Identity, or to use a vague and distant/ historical reference to a person or event that exists "on paper" in an attempt to authenticate oneself, falsely.

For example - The Qalipu authenticate themselves through a Confoundment of Paper, through root "ancestors" that have long since passed on and cannot teach any "Qalipu FN" people today how to be FNMI people.  Because of this Confoundment of Paper, there is no Living Memory as an authentic First Nations person.

DEFENDIAN - is a First Nations, Metis or Inuit (FNMI) who defends a Pretendian who has been called out and is being scrutinized.  The Defendian (the FNMI person) may be motivated by friendship, love or other relationship to defend the Pretendian.
 

This behaviour is harmful, because it undermines the authentication process and divides the FNMI Indigenous community or space.  The defense includes: speaking up on behalf of the person to say they ARE Indigenous, or that they have good intent, or they are very "kind", or will say that those asking the questions are being Laterally Violent or Bullying.  All these strategies are designed to delay, interfere with, or stop the scrutiny of the Pretendian
 

The Pretendian and/or the Defendian may also rally friends, family members, online communities and/or colleagues to speak out, or act out, on their behalf, which is very harmful behaviour (gaslighting).  Once the Defendian realizes that the scrutiny was warranted and the person they were defending is NOT Indigenous or has very distant Indigenous connections, they often feel very violated and traumatized (a very intimate betrayal).  Other times, the Defendian knew the Pretendian was NOT First Nations, Métis or Inuit and they just did not care.
 

Defendians use their position in Indigenous spaces as leverage to make way for the Pretendian, so it is important to not be derailed in the pursuit of Truth.

DESCENDIAN - is a person who has a remote First Nations, Métis or Inuit relative WAY back in their family genealogy, and takes that singular FNMI Ancestor from multiple generations back to lay claim to full FNMI benefits today.   That is WRONG!

 

Below is a table to illustrate this concept:
If you last First Nations, Métis or Inuit ancestor was:

4 generations back: 16 great great grandparents total, 15 non-FNMI

5 generations back: 32 great great grandparents total, 31 non-FNMI

6 generations back: 64 great great great great grandparents total, 63 non-FNMI

7 generations back: 128 great great great great great grandparents, 127 non-FNMI
 

If your last FNMI ancestor was seven generations back, do you have FNMI lived experience?  NO.
If your FNMI Ancestor has long since passed, are you accountable to them?  NO.

What have they taught you about being FNMI?  NOTHING.
Being a Descendian means Non-FNMI people raised you with privilege and in the absence of FNMI Lived Experience - there is very little authenticity there - therefore, Descendians should NOT be speaking on behalf of FNMI People because of that disparity and disconnection.

 

Descendians tend to be aggressive, rude, entitled and oblivious to the Circle of Accountability within a nation that only FNMI Indigenous Lived Experience and Cultural Transference can give.

Descendians have NO LIVING MEMORY of what it is like to be First Nations, Metis or Inuit, and therefore, have a serious disconnection and ignorance .
  Descendians DO NOT HAVE INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA, they have Intergenerational Privilege.

DOUBLE DOWN - happens after a Pretendian or Descendian has been revelaed in a public forum as having a False Claim to FNMI Identity.  This specifically refers to their innate inability to make room for a new reality - an inability to accept and live by TRUTH.

The Pretendian/ Descendian continues on as if nothing happened and they continue to steal resources, occupy FNMI space and roles, and rally their supporters to continue the facade, both online and in person.  They may engage in a campaign of retaliation aimed at those who revealed their deception.  This retaliation is documented in every case of FNMI Identity Fraud, and even today in April 2024, the GWS continues to field complaints of supposed "harrassment" of Mary Ellen Turpel Lafond, Vianne Timmons, Beverly Santa Maria, ShoShona Kish and more.

These Pretendians and Descendians all doubled down and continued on without concern or an apology to FNMI people, without offering to make restitution and without offering to replace stolen resources to FNMI people.  They all doubled down and continued on as if nothing happened and it reeked of "business as usual", which is exactly how they see it.

DOXXING - is a tactic used by Pretendians and their supporters that publishes personal information of the person asking questions.  This includes posting a street address, personal phone number, workplace address and direct lines, and other identifying information that would normally be available only to family and friends of the person being "doxxed."
 

This is a very aggressive action, designed to intimidate or silence the First Nations, Métis or Inuit person asking questions.  The Pretendian will go to great lengths to conceal their deception, and doxxing is one such intrusive and manipulative tactic that is classified as CyberBullying and one stark reality of FNMI Identity Fraud.  Those combatting FNMI Identity Fraud are brave and courageous.

ELDER SHIELD - occurs when the Pretendian is under investigation, or has been unmasked and in the aftermath of this revelation, they are desperate to reform the connection to First Nations, Métis or Inuit Identity.  The Pretendian's first act of defense is to use Elder(s) as shields from controversy, and coerce these Elder(s) into signing affidavits or releasing public statements in defense of the Pretendian.  The instances of Elder Shield are increasing thanks to the provisions of Bill S3.

This is a cringey situation that is basically, Elder Abuse, and is a harsh reality of FNMI Identity Fraud and the self-preservation tactics of the Pretendian and is a spiritually barren act of Self-Preservation.

GRIFT - "a petty swindle" - is how we describe the predictable actions and strategies of the Pretendian and the Descendian.  The Grift refers to a reliably deceptive pattern of behaviour and in context can be used in combination with the (FNMI Nation) claimed, i.e. "That's some serious Métis Grift" or "That's some serious Pretendian Grift."  The Grift refers to the Con employed within the realm of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Identity Theft and Fraud.

HOKEY - refers to the feeling that one gets when encountering someone who may be "trying too hard."  It is a noticeably contrived, forced, over-embellished representation of First Nations, Métis or Inuit People, and comes across as almost comical.  It is one of the characteristics of Pretendians, to wear FNMI People and Culture like a costume.

LATERAL CLAIM - occurs when a Non-FNMI person claims a FNMI Identity because they are dating, in a relationship with, or married to a FNMI person.  Oftentimes, the FNMI spouse/partner is complicit in this deception.  In very rare cases, the FNMI spouse is unaware that their partner has been deceptive about their biological truths of FNMI Identity, but only one case of this has been documented and that relationship ended once the deception was discovered.

The Lateral Claim to an FNMI Identity is disingenuous, opportunistic, convenient and an abject failure to establish trusting relationships with other human beings.  Characteristics include: sparse social media presence, hiding family pictures (because often the extended family of the Pretendian DO NOT claim FNMI Identity or lifestyles), using an Indigenous name only, defensiveness when asked, and collecting FNMI "friends" or "acquaintances" to increase credibility.  The FNMI spouse will often damage relationships with everyone else if they knowingly presented this Pretendian spouse as FNMI through a Lateral Claim.

LIVING MEMORY - is essential to the authentic First Nations, Métis and Inuit voice.  It refers to the lived experience as an FNMI person.  In the vast majority of modern FNMI people, they have someone in their recent extended family that has been to Indian Residential School/ Day School or TB Sanitoriums, were part of the Sixties Scoop, experienced Intergenerational Trauma or experienced Systemic Racism in Canadian society and institutions.  

In the living memory of Inuit, there is the numbered system of identification, the RCMP slaughter of sled dogs integral to travel, hunting and culture, to name a few colonial traumas.

In the living memory of the Métis, there are forced Road Allowances, Scrip, forced migration and relocation, to name a few colonial traumas.

PRETENDIAN is a non-First Nations, Métis or Inuit person who claims an FNMI Identity for the purpose of Indigenous Resource Acquisition.  This non-FNMI person accesses positions of authority, employment, funding sources, law and policy making, housing, incubators, and academic opportunities and streams and other resources - specifically designated for FNMI People through Truth & Reconciliation and other campaigns - to which they are NOT entitled. 

Some common characteristics of the Pretendian include shifting First Nations, Métis or Inuit nations (i.e. Algonquin then Metis then Wendat), using an FNMI language name only on social media, changing stories of origin, hyper defensiveness when being asked questions, others in their family do not claim to be Indigenous, they hide personal identifying information such as their colonial name or where they grew up, all manners of deflection and avoidance, and the number one Red Flag all Pretendians use:  RESISTANCE TO AUTHENTICATION.

The Pretendian is a mentally ill person who harbours a deep sense of resentment against First Nations, Métis and Inuit.  They are often unable to function socially among current peers and social circles, and thus they shift abruptly to infiltrate FNMI spaces.  They then claim roles as FNMI, and groom FNMI People (they target Elders and vulnerable people, young people), and they are highly Narcissistic in demeanour and behaviour. 

Further, the vast majority of Pretendians use some variation of the Sixties Scoop/ adoption narrative as a justification of having no status, no records , no community and no nation.  Pretendians are capitalist in nature and will employ every and all tactics necessary to further cement their deception and assure their position in FNMI spaces.

RED ANCHOR BABY (INDIGENOUS-FETISH) - is when a Non-FNMI person pursues someone who is First Nations, Métis or Inuit for the sole purpose of having a baby.  The baby can be born naturally, but can also extend to step-children or adopted children.  The goal of the Red Anchor Baby is to anchor the non-FNMI person into a First Nations, Métis or Inuit family, community, nation and Identity. 

Once these children are born and/or there's a marriage, common law situation/ family unit established, that's where Lateral Claims to FNMI Identity come from.  The FNMI Spouse is usually complicit in  presenting their non-FNMI spouse to their FNMI circles as being FNMI also.

For instance, let's say Jenny, who is not First Nations, Métis or Inuit, went to great lengths to have First Nation children by having relationships with First Nations men.  Her current partner is also a First nations man, and so now, everyone believes she is First Nations also, when she never was.  She claimed laterally through her First Nations spouse/ father(s) of her First Nations child(ren).  Jenny may even go so far as to dance in Pow Wow regalia and assume a First Nations Identity and lead everyone to believe she is also First Nations when she is clearly, not.

SCRUBBING  - the act of suddenly changing social media (Websites, Intros, Profiles) to erase specific references to a First Nations, Métis or Inuit identity, after being revealed as a Pretendian, OR to deliberately delete content during an Investigation.  This ALSO refers to changing privacy protocols during an authentication process, in an act of deliberate sabotage.  Scrubbing also manifests as blocking information prior to a certain point in time.  For instance, there is no information to be found online prior to 2016 - so the investigation stalls because the Pretendian has scrubbed all events prior to 2016 because they contain incriminating evidence.

It is important to note that when Pretendians ar
e unmasked, there is rarely an apology to First Nations, Métis or Inuit, nor is there ever a replacement of the Resources stolen through their deception and fraud.

Scrubbing is an act of Self-Preservation and is rooted in Narcissism.
